It is safe to use aluminum foil in an air fryer, but please note the following:

Suitability and Advantages of Aluminum Foil

Safety and High Temperature Resistance: Aluminum foil (actually mostly aluminum foil) can withstand temperatures up to 400-500℃, while the maximum temperature of an air fryer usually does not exceed 250℃. Therefore, it will not release harmful substances due to high temperatures. Ensure you use food-grade aluminum foil and avoid inferior products.

Main Uses

Moisture Locking: Wraps meat, vegetables, etc., keeping them tender and juicy (e.g., roasted chicken wings, enoki mushrooms).

Even Heat Dissipation: Prevents food from burning in certain areas, especially suitable for ingredients with uneven thickness.

Easy Cleaning: Placed at the bottom of the frying basket, it catches grease and crumbs, reducing cleaning difficulty.

Precautions for Use

Avoid Obstructing Air Circulation

Aluminum foil should not completely cover the bottom or sides of the frying basket; leave gaps to ensure hot air circulation (e.g., fold the edges or cut small holes). When food is very light (such as a small amount of vegetable slices), the aluminum foil may be lifted by the hot air. It needs to be pressed down with food or a foil bowl should be used instead.

Correct Wrapping Method

Matte side in contact with food: The matte side absorbs heat better, while the glossy side faces outwards to reflect heat.

Avoid acidic foods: Acidic substances such as lemon juice and ketchup may corrode the aluminum foil, causing trace amounts of aluminum to leach out.

Comparison with other materials

Baking paper/oil-absorbing paper

Low flash point (approximately 220℃), may burn if heated for a long time. Suitable for short-term low-temperature cooking (such as baking cookies).

Does not obstruct airflow, but cannot retain moisture. Suitable for foods requiring a crispy texture (such as French fries).

Aluminum foil bowl

More suitable for liquids or small-particle foods (such as egg tarts, garlic vermicelli), preventing drips and eliminating the need for flipping.

Safety Tips

Avoid dry heating: Do not place aluminum foil alone when there is no food inside, as it may curl and touch the heating element due to high temperature.

Fire prevention: Lightweight paper (such as parchment paper) should be pressed down with food, otherwise it can be easily blown up by hot air and cause danger (refer to multiple fire cases).
